SACRED SPIRITS

Amazing how many people are moving from ‘religious’ to ‘spiritual’. Religious, I get it. Most of the time, culture applied to the worship of God. Are the gods actually the same? Subject for another time.

...But spiritual, I’m confused. It seems to range from paganistic to being at one, vibrations to wild esoterical hoo-haa and beyond. But push many on the subject of a higher power, a universal consciousness ...God, and most will concede that at the pinnacle somewhere, there must be some omnipotent force or energy which holds domain. So the question is not so much ABOUT whether a divine creator, but more the form that the creator takes.

What intrigues me is that both religious and spiritual, mostly all of us, seem to place ourselves at the centre of the god question. ‘No, I don’t believe what THEY do. My god does this, acts like that...’

We define and constrain the magnificence of whatever incredible orchestrator must be behind the infinite string of coincidences of truly galactic proportions, which has resulted in humankind being here now, as we are, where we are. Whatever is responsible, I would love to know what he/she/it thinks of our trivial assessments of how we believe he/she/it should be?

We have been taught to separate spiritual from material. We go to church on Sundays, lead decent lives with the odd wobble now and then. We raise families and give to charity. But come Monday, we are pit-bulls and hyenas in the battlefields of progress.

The universe shows us more and more in epic style that our perceptions are simply our perceptions, nothing more. But that said, we are the pinnacle of life - at least in our solar system - and as such, surely have a purpose. And that purpose will not be reached while we ignore our spirits within, shouting out what we know we know, embracing our roles not of masters of all we survey, but custodians and groundkeepers of planet our beautiful blue planet, embracing our collective identity as billions of intelligent beings contributing in small ways over eons, to the evolution of life and roll-out of creation. And who knows, the true role we will be remembered for, has not yet been written.
